What do you need to think about before entering a pool?
Pools 1) Is there a lifeguard on duty? 2) Do you know where the deep end is? 3) Do you know how deep the water is? 4) Is the pool all one depth?
Can you think of any pool rules? STAnley says: Remember - Rules are there for a reason!
Take Safety Advice Always listen to the lifeguards Read and take note of safety signs If it says don’t do it- DON’T!
Can you think of the potential dangers around a canal?
Canals 1) Are the sides solid like a swimming pool? 2) Is the water warm? 3) Is there any protection to stop people falling in? 4) Can you see beneath the water’s surface?

Lakes 1) Will your feet be able to touch the ground? 2) Is there a current or a tide? Can you see beneath the water’s surface? Is it the same depth all the way through?

The Beach 1) Is there a lifeguard? 2) Are there any waves? 3) Is there any quick sand? 4) Is the water always still?
Take Safety Advice: Beach Safety Never go onto the beach/sea in bad weather conditions Look at any signs/flags on the beach If there is a lifeguard present, always listen to them Stay away from manmade structures Stay away from sandbanks and sandbars Do not use inflatable toys when there is a strong wind or tide.
