FM in West Dunbartonshire Schools & Nurseries The Following Services are located within Housing, Environment and Economic Development Services (HEEDS): Janitorial and Cleaning Services Catering Services Grounds Maintenance Property Services School Crossing Patrols & Road Safety Officers

Supporting the School Building Lessons learned from PPP process Janitors transferred to contractor Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance won by Council teams in competition with contractor Catering excluded from PPP bidding process and retained in-house Hard-headed approach by PPP contractor to janitorial contracts and duties: focus on the building; commercial/financial drivers

Supporting the School Community Roles of janitors/caretakers: respect for property; citizenship; Eco Schools Roles of catering staff: Hungry for Success; Breakfast Clubs; Nurture Groups; Health & Wellbeing; oral hygiene; grow your own fruit & veg; free meals pilot Roles of other HEEDS staff: Grounds Maintenance; Property Services; Road Safety Officers & School Crossing Patrollers

Towards a new SLA Partnership approach Based on an FM Service Profile Developed by working group of Head Teachers, FM Managers and FM staff Aim: standardised service delivery BUT: scope for additional/personalised requirements Corporate approach: shared understanding of roles Aim: 15% saving on current budget with no service reduction Adaptable; still making a contribution to school life

Conclusion FM staff are key personnel in a successful school/nursery Clarity of roles and responsibilities crucial Within this context, service will evolve to meet changing needs & requirements Focus on purpose of service: to assist with the delivery of high quality educational provision
