STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT VISION STATEMENT MISSION STATEMENT SWOT ANALYSIS

A vision statement is your ticket to success. A photograph in words of your company's future, it provides the inspiration for both your daily operations and your strategic decisions. Without a vision statement, effective business planning would be impossible; it's the vision statement that provides the destination for the journey, and without a destination, how can you plan the route? VISION STATEMENT

1. E XAMINE YOUR V ISION A mission statement answers the question, “Where do I see my business going? 2. D are to dream Before you can travel to the moon you have to look up at the stars. To write a vision statement, focus on the where is your business going to be five years from now? What will your company have accomplished? Forming a mental picture will help.

3. S HAPE YOUR VISION STATEMENT ; APPLY THE FORMULA Maybe when you were picturing the future of your company, you saw a whole list of achievements scroll by or imagined all sorts of disjointed clips. To write a vision statement, we need to distil your vision into a usable form. Use the following formula to shape your vision statement: Five years from now, (my company name) will ____________ by providing _________ to _____________. Using this formula to write a vision statement will force you to choose what you consider to be the most important accomplishment of your business and give you a time frame to accomplish it.

S AMPLE VISION STATEMENTS Walt Disney’s vision statement : “To create a new kind of amusement park filled with the accomplishments, joys, and hopes of the world we live in.” Microsoft’s vision statement : “Empowering people through great software at any time, and any place, on any device.” Sony’s vision statement : “We invite new thinking, so even more fantastic ideas can evolve. We take chances. We exceed expectations. We help dreamers dream.” FirstGlobal Bank’s vision statement : "To be recognized as one of the premier commercial banks in Jamaica and the Caribbean. We will lead in the innovation of banking products and services, and forge profitable alliances while embracing the values of honesty, integrity and trust.."

M ISSION VS VISION STATEMENT

M ISSION STATEMENT

1. D escribe what your business does No need to be fancy here. Just say it, for the moment. Sample Mission Statements My company's purpose is to: Sell shoes Provide educational services Grow market vegetables 2. D escribe how you do it Think of the core values that are important to you that are expressed in your business, such as to Provide high product quality, to Provide superior customer service and to Protect the quality of the environment. It might be helpful to focus on your business's core competencies when you're considering which values are worthy of being a part of your mission statement. Once you've decided which core values are most important, add one (or two at the most) to your description of what your company does. It should highlight what makes you unique.

3. A DD WHY When you write a mission statement, this is the part that describes your spark, or the passion behind your business. Why does your business do what it does? For some people, it helps to think back on why they started their business in the first place Use words that eloquently capture what the business will do. FirstGlobal Bank “ We will consistently create value for our customers through innovative products and services that satisfy their banking needs” Jamaica Cultural Development Commission “ To develop and promote the creative talents and cultural expressions of the Jamaican people and to ensure that the nation's cultural heritage is preserved and sustained for the benefit of future generations”
