Lead and Healthy Homes Program (LHHP) Seeks to create safe and healthy housing by addressing health and safety issues in homes. When hazards are in the home, they can affect the health of the occupants, particularly children and seniors.

Lead and Healthy Homes Program Funded by a grant from Serves 35 Counties (contracted by NNCC to serve Berks, Schuylkill, and Lancaster). Services are free to low-mid income persons (300% of federal poverty guidelines or lower) Services are available to homeowners, renters, and persons of all ages.

Purpose of the LHHP Reduce hospitalizations, injuries, illnesses, or deaths from preventable home health or safety risks by: Conducting Comprehensive home assessments Providing education and interventions Establishing and strengthening local partnerships Collaborating with enforcement agencies on housing issues

Seven Principles of Healthy Homes Keep It: Dry Clean Pest-free Ventilated Safe Contaminant Free Maintained

Environmental Health Assessment Identify the health and safety issues in the home, educate the client about the issues, and provide interventions. Issues that are addressed include: Mold Pests (bed bugs, mice, rats, roaches) Lead-based paint (chipping or peeling paint) Child/Senior Safety concerns Conduct 60-day follow-up visit

Referrals to Other Agencies LHHP refers clients to other programs as needed. Referrals are made to: Weatherization Community Action Agencies Social/Human Service Agencies Housing Programs And more!

LHHP Supplies The following supplies are provided to clients at no cost: □ CO detectors, Smoke Detectors, Fire Extinguishers □ Allergen bed/pillow covers □ Pest control supplies □ Child Safety Supplies □ Cleaning Supplies

Environmental (Lead) Inspection Primary Care Physician performs blood test (recommended method for BLL is via a venous blood draw). BLL must be either greater than 20mcg/dl or 2 consecutive BLL between the ranges of 15 – 19 mcg/dl within 3 months to warrant an Environmental Inspection. If BLL’s are not within this range, a visual inspection can be performed during a healthy homes inspection. An EI is provided at no cost to the client provided that they meet poverty guidelines. EI’s are covered by Medical Assistance (MA)

Remediation Limited funding is available for remediation All requests are submitted to the Program Manager for approval
