“Nobody signs up to have a child with special needs. Then you realize that this is a gift, this child is the light. And if you can nourish that light and let it shine, you have an opportunity to get closer to God, and that’s grace.” -- John C. McGinley

ABOUT US The Founder-Teachers

M.S. Kanaka, 42 years of age. Basically a tourism graduate, has a work experience of 4 years in the field of special education. “My entry to this field was accidental and I found it challenging. My hidden skills were explored to the maximum as each day taught me something new. In the process I have also understood the nuances of teaching which ultimately inspired me to join my friends and begin a center. I hope this exposure will help me to influence the children to evolve and blossom.” Bindu Haridas, 35 years of age and mother of a special child. A Commerce graduate, she has also completed a Diploma in special education and has 3 years experience working with special children. “As mother and a special educator, I realize the value of acceptance by parents and independence of children with special needs. I have always felt that a child’s development begins only when he/she is accepted at home. These thoughts with well conceived ideas of my friends resulted in the formation of “Ekadaksha”. I am confident that our goal of making the child an independent and responsible adult will be achieved through our combined efforts”.

Archana Joshi, 25 years of age, with a work experience of 3 years in the field of special education. A Commerce graduate, she has completed Diploma in special education besides M.Sc. Applied Psychology and is pursuing Art based therapy. “In the initial stages, I had no clue what I was getting into, but when I did get into it I enjoyed. Even though it can get hectic, the satisfaction derived when seeing the development of a child makes me think that the profession I have chosen is unique. A joint venture with matured, but like-minded mothers gives me an opportunity to learn more and showcase my skill which would help these children.” Bharathi Balarajan, 35 years of age and a mother of a special child. A graduate of Commerce, she has completed a Diploma in special education, and has 3 years experience of working with special children. “As mother and a special educator, I have understood that parents and educators have to work in tandem for the benefit of the child. My personal experience says that inputs from parents to teachers and vice versa has worked wonders for the child. This also helps to bridge the gap between parents and teachers. An association with my friends in starting a center helps in disseminating this idea. As in our name “Ekadaksha”, I am sure I will be able to do justice to “uniquely abled” children.”
