 I want to tell you about Scotland. I chose this theme because it`s a beautiful and interesting country and I want to travel there.

 Edinburgh is not only the capital of Scotland, but also the administrative center of the homonymous province. The city is situated in a picturesque location on the southern shore of the bay with the interesting name of the Firth of Forth.

 Scotland is governed as an integral part of Great Britain.  As part of the United Kingdom, the head of state in Scotland is the monarch of the United Kingdom, currently Queen Elizabeth (since 1952).

 It's not just the blue flag with a white oblique cross. This symbol of the kingdom of Scotland has its own legend. Scottish King Angus II, preparing for battle with England, spent the night in prayer to God.  The next morning the blue sky clouds appeared and took the shape X - on such a cross, almost 750 years ago, the apostle Andrew was crucified. Angus II defeated opponents. So the cross on the blue sky has become a way of flag.

 The official emblem of the Kingdom of Scotland in the form of a red lion with tongue and claws blue, shown on a gold field, which was framed by a red border in the two bands, decorated with lilies.

 Official anthem of Scotland, as such, does not exist. In the first place in popularity is the song of «The Corries» - «The Flower of Scotland».,Second place is «Scotland the Brave» Cliff Handley.

 Scotland is rich not only the official state symbols, along with it there is the so-called semi-official character - a unicorn holding a shield and decorating many historical emblems, thistle - portrayed on the bills of the national currency; bagpipes - Scottish musical instrument.

 Haggis- a food made from the organs of sheep and oatmeal.  Kilts - traditional Scottish woolen cloth costume with a tartan or plaid pattern. This is a skirt that men wear.  Bagpipers - people who play the bagpipes, a traditional Scottish instrument.

 The wearing of tartans is traditional in Scotland. Originally, the tartan was worn as a long piece of cloth thrown over the shoulders.

 The Scottish musical instrument is the pipes or bagpipes.

 Walter Scott was a famous historical novelist and poet. The famous titles include ROB ROY, THE LADY OF THE LAKE, WAVERLEY, THE BRIDE OF LAMMERMOOR.

 25 th January is celebrated by Scotsmen all over the world, as it is the birthday of Robert Burns. The festival is called Burns Night. During the festival pipe music is played, traditional dress is worn and a traditional Scottish meal is eaten. People also recite poems by their favourite poet.
