What is the School Sport Award? A new national Award scheme for physical education and school sport that will: Recognise and celebrate successful PE & school sport models Encourage schools to self reflect and continuously improve Put young people at the forefront of the decision making, planning and implementation processes Help schools to increase young people’s opportunities and engagement in PE & school sport Help schools to put PE & school sport at the heart of their planning, practice and ethos.

Who developed the Award? The award is a Scottish Government initiative that has been developed by sportscotland in consultation with: –The Young People’s Sport Panel –Education Scotland –Scottish Disability Sport –Physical education and classroom teachers –Active Schools coordinators –PE Lead Officers

How does the Award work? 1.Set up a school sport committee 2.Complete the online self assessment 3.Assessment results will highlight areas for improvement 4.Use results to inform and complete a development plan 5.Deliver the actions identified in your development plan 6.Tool will also be used to assess a school when applying for a Gold School Sport Award. Schools applying for Gold must also: –Upload evidence against each core area –YA’s to provide a supporting statement for each core area –Submit development plan 7.Gold applications will be externally assessed and successful schools will be awarded a Gold School Sport Award.

All pupils should have access to 2 hours/2 periods of quality physical education. Core areas of the School Sport Award

There should be clear pathways to a range of community sport opportunities to encourage life long participation for all pupils. Core areas of the School Sport Award

A choice of quality physical education and sport related Career Long Professional Development (CLPL) opportunities on offer for all staff and volunteer deliverers. Core areas of the School Sport Award

Strong links to local clubs and preferential access to school facilities for these organisations. Core areas of the School Sport Award

Opportunities for pupils to lead, coach, officiate and influence sport in their schools. Core areas of the School Sport Award

Recognition and awards for the staff and volunteers who give up their time to support, organise or deliver extra curricular sport and physical activity opportunities in the school. Core areas of the School Sport Award
