Youthbuild Scotland

Play your part The Action for Children Youthbuild programme provides opportunities for young people aged 16 – 19 to access bespoke construction training and employment. Funded for the next 7 years by Inspiring Scotland, European Social Fund, Scottish Government and Local Councils, we work across Scotland with services in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Clackmannanshire, Ayrshire, Inverclyde and West Dunbarton. To date Youthbuild has supported over 150 young people to access employment and training within the construction industry but this is only the beginning.  We can support and assist you to create opportunities for young people and help us build a brighter future for all. A charity partnership with Action for Children will help your company make a lasting difference to the lives of the most vulnerable young people.  Working with us will build your reputation as a company that is passionate about helping people achieve their full potential, whatever their circumstances.

The benefits of being involved By becoming a placement provider you and your company will: Receive the first 6 weeks labour - Cost Free Next 6 months - 50% of wages subsidised by Youthbuild Support from professional staff Lower recruitment costs Benefit from free training offered to your company Assist in tackling the issue of skilled local labour shortages, as identified by the Construction Skills Action Plan Assist in tackling Social Exclusion

Training and Certificates Each young person receives 6 weeks Certificated training and will arrive on placement with the following: CSCS Card Emergency First Aid P.A.S.M.A - Mobile Access Towers Manual Handling Safety Awareness Small Plant and Tools Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Travel assistance In addition a range of certificated and non-certificated training including: Vehicle Marshalling, Slabbing & Kerbing, Health & Safety, Working @ Heights, Intro to Bricklaying, Joinery, Plastering and Painting & Decorating. One to one support from their allocated Project Worker who will visit weekly to address any issues (where required) and to monitor progress.

Employment Liaison Officer Final note The Youthbuild programme has been a great success for both young people and contractors. We are currently working with approximately 50 contractors throughout Scotland such as Balfour Beatty, Sir Robert McAlpine, McTaggart Construction, The Malcolm Group, CCG, McTaggart and Mickel, FES, James Frew and Advance Construction as well as many local companies in local communities.
