Crafting & Delivering the Jaycee Message

Why are we here? An Elevator Speech is that short pitch you must make when you only have a very limited amount of time. Find out how to create your Jaycee elevator speech so you can let others know what the Jaycees are all about!

Why is a Jaycee elevator speech important? Who are the Jaycees? The Jaycees are amazing! We want to tell others how amazing they are! We want to recruit! We know that word is mouth is the MOST POWERFUL recruitment tool!

So, how do we do this? Before we get into that…let’s take a step back. Think about the last time you were a customer and you had a GREAT experience. What was that experience like? What made you remember it? Reflect on that experience (to yourself) for a moment.

Sharing the good news! Activity: Turn to the person next to you and introduce yourself Share your great customer service experience with your partner You have 5 minutes- GO!

What is the connection? Why would we spend time talking about your great customer service experiences? What does it have to do with creating an elevator speech? How often are we actually in elevators?

Sharing Stories is Powerful! When we discuss things that are important to us, we share –Passion –Excitement –Good news –Something that others should be excited about too!

The Elevator Speech An elevator pitch (or elevator speech) is a short summary used to quickly and simply define a person, product, service, or organization and its promise of value to be delivered. The name “elevator pitch” reflects the idea that it should be possible to deliver the summary in the time span of an elevator ride, or approximately thirty seconds to two minutes. Source:

What Makes the Jaycees Special? When you think of the Jaycees, what words come to mind? What messages do you want to share? Think about it quietly. Write it down.

What to say in 30 seconds to 2 minutes Activity: Turn to the other person next to you. Share what you would want to get across to someone about the Jaycees in that time period of 30 second to 2 minutes. You have 5 minutes- GO!

What did you decide? We will share this information using the format of FLASH. We will go around the room and when it is your turn QUICKLY share (as in a flash!) your idea. If your idea was already shared, then kindly say “pass” and let the next person share. We will then work off the collective list and create an elevator speech/pitch.

Now- we will craft the speech! Please count off. All the 1’s will be a group, all the 2’s will be a group…you get the idea As a group- develop an elevator pitch (no more than 2 minutes) about the Jaycees. You have ~5 minutes! Go!

Share Time! Each group, please select a spokesperson (or do it as a group) and share your pitch/speech in less than TWO MINUTES~

Great work! Today we learned: 1.Why an elevator speech/pitch is very important! 2.Elements of an elevator speech/pitch 3.Examples of an elevator speech/pitch 4.That 2 minutes can go by REALLY fast!

Thank You! Have fun fine tuning and working on YOUR elevator speech/pitch! Spread the good word about the Jaycees!
