What is traction? The ability of the tires to grip the surface of the road. What limits the amount of traction? Conditions of tires Conditions of tires Conditions of the roadway Conditions of the roadway Vehicle speed, pitch, and roll forces Vehicle speed, pitch, and roll forces

Which tire has better tread? How can you tell?

AB Which tire needs to be replaced? How can you tell? Both tires need to be replaced.

Even good tires can’t grip the road when you drive too fast for conditions. Hydroplaning can happen at speeds as low as 35 mph. What other roadway conditions require you to drive at speeds lower than the posted limit? Hover mouse over screen to use play bar

Which Situation Demands the Most Traction? The curve requires a greater amount of traction. The tires must grip the road and have enough force to change the vehicle’s direction of travel.

Practice for poor conditions while conditions are good. Test your traction while you have plenty of sliding space straight ahead.
