Giving Trends – Nationally

$7.8B Total Charitable Giving Ohio giving grew in 2012 by 18 percent.

Individual Giving in Ohio Individual giving grew in 2012 by nearly 23 percent.

Individual Giving in Ohio One quarter of Ohio’s taxpayers – 1.26 million – reported charitable gifts on their federal tax returns.

Individual Giving in Ohio Over the last five years, Ohioans have contributed $25.94 billion to their favorite charitable causes.

Foundation Giving in Ohio In 2012, foundation assets grew by 12 percent, passing the $20 billion mark.

Foundation Giving in Ohio In 2012, the number of Ohio foundations continued to increase, as it has over the past five years.

Foundation Giving in Ohio The growth of Ohio foundations, which stalled after the Great Recession, has picked up with 12 percent growth.

Giving in Northeast Ohio Of the $1.26 billion foundation grants, $591 million are given from foundations in Northeast Ohio. Grants from Akron (MSA) –$63 million From Cleveland (MSA) –$478 million From Canton (MSA) –$25 million From Youngstown (MSA) –$25 million

Results 2003: 31,657 nonprofits in Ohio 2013: 37,267 nonprofits Doing the math, that is a 26% increase Total expenditures 2001: $35.8 billion in expenditures by nonprofits 2011: $70.8 billion in expenditures
