Heat Transfer

Review Marshmallow and flame Pancakes and feet What am I talking about when I use these words?

Radiation Energy comes from the Sun as radiant energy. Radiant energy travels as waves through space and through air. Radiation from the Sun can be visible, like light, or invisible, like infrared radiation, ultraviolet radiation, X-Ray, or radio wavelengths.

Conduction Energy transfer happens between molecules or atoms when they come in contact. This kind of heat transfer is conduction. Heat can transfer by conduction from atom to atom in a material, or between two different materials when their atoms or molecules make contact.

Bonus (this MAY appear tomorrow) What is heat? –Molecular Motion is heat! The faster atoms or molecules move, the more heat energy they produce.

Sarah and Robert wanted to know if dry soil or water heats up faster in the sunlight. They measured equal amounts of dry soil and water into two separate containers that were the same shape and size. Then they got ready to take the containers outside.
