Sir Walter Raleigh Sir Walter Raleigh was a very famous explorer. He was one of the most favourites of Queen Elizabeth I. By Alex, Sherilyn and Ellie. Picture of Raleigh and his brother.

Time Line 1552 Raleigh was born He went to France as a soldier He studied at Oxford University He fought against Rebels in Ireland He fought against the Spanish He met Queen Elizabeth I Raleigh visited Ireland and was the first to grow potatoes Raleigh was found guilty of Treason and locked in the tower of London Raleigh was set free Raleigh was executed because he introduced England to tobacco.

Food and Drink on ship They would eat fresh fruit. Some of the fruit would go rotten on the voyage. At the end of the voyage there would only be biscuits to eat. They were horrible because they were made out of salt. The biscuits gave them have energy. They took biscuits, beer, salt beef and fish, butter and cheese.

Voyage Sir Walter Raleigh sailed to : America, Spain and Ireland He was the first man to grow potatoes in Ireland. He found North America. Raleigh went to the Queen of Spain to get his funding for the voyage.

Jobs on ship Raleigh’s crew would have many jobs to do such as: controlling the sails sailing the ships serving the captain. scrubbing the decks. laying out food and rum for the officers

Life on ship Life on ship was very hard and poor. They would be afraid about their families because of ‘savages’ in the new world. There were lots of dangers on a ship such as falling over board and disease.

Entertainment Raleigh’s crew would sing songs, dance to their songs. They would entertain them self by cleaning the decks and cooking.

Land “ahoy” Sir Walter Raleigh found South America. He found gold and silver in the New World. He and his men would search the islands for gold and silver.

Why he is important Sir Walter Raleigh was famous for many different things like: Writer, explorer and soldier. And he found many interesting things to bring back to England like: potatoes, tobacco, gold and silver. They were really brave because they did not know the world was not flat and the dangers they faced.
