The Importance of integrating information from two texts on the same topic. You will be able to speak or write more knowledgeably about the subject based on information from two sources.

Steps Step 1- Read both sources. Step 2- Identify the topic of each source. Step 3- Make the connection of both topics Step 4-Use what you learned to write or speak knowledgeably about the topic. Instruction: Use Multiple Sources Suppose your assignment is to write a report or give a speech on a certain topic. First, you will need to do some research on a topic by reading multiple sources Next you will need to take notes on what you learned from each source. Then you will use what you learned from all the sources to write or speak knowledgably about your topic.

Steps Guided Practice 1.Your assignment is to give a speech about the qualities of a hero. You decide to start finding out about famous heroes. 2.Suppose that you have found two different sources about heroic people in history. Read Source A below. Step 1- Read both sources. Step 2- Identify the topic of each source. Step 3- Make the connection of both topics Step 4-Use what you learned to write or speak knowledgeably about the topic.

Both Curie and Banneker overcame obstacles. Both Curie and Banneker made a difference in society through their work. Heroes are people who overcome obstacles in order to help society.

The connection between sample A and B That heroes are people who overcome obstacles in order to help society. This will be the focus of your speech. You will prepare your speech and use examples from your reading to support your main ideas.

Writing and speaking assignment / Guided Practice Write a speech titled, “The Qualities of a Hero.” Use examples from your reading to support your main ideas.

The Qualities of a Hero Heroes are people who overcome obstacles and help society. Benjamin Banneker helped society by inventing a clock, writing an almanac, and surveying the land that later became the US Capital. Marie Curie opened a new field of medicine called radiology that treated cancer and other diseases. Both of these people helped make society a better place which makes them heroes. One day I hope to make a difference in society by helping out or inventing something that will benefit or change the world for the better.

Closure 1.What did you learn today? 2.How do make the connection between two texts or sources to write or speak knowledgeably about the same topic.
