With a team consisting of: Ayush Lewis Luke Owen Emily Emma Tilly Eve Sophie On a freezing cold Sunday morning at Babington ! Sunday 8 th February We all met to play a friendly against Derbyshire
First Up Mixed Doubles Luke & Eve: A tough match to get us started, a close first game won , only for Derby to take the next 18-21, this one went all the way with Leics taking the decider Leics 1 Derbys 0 Owen & Tilly: Another tough match. Leics losing the first game 16 – 21, Only to win the next game 21-4, taking it into a decider for a hard fought win Leics 2 Derbys 0 Ayush & Emma: This started badly, losing the first game 11-21, showing fighting spirit they took the next 21-12, again taking the match into a decider which was closely fought, narrowly losing Leics 2 Derbys 1 Lewis & Sophie: A warm-up match for these two, easily won in 2 game 21-6 and 21-2 Leics 3 Derbys 1
Next Up Boys Singles Luke : A frustrating match that saw Luke wiping the floor with his diving, took the first 21 – 18, only for the second to be lost 19-21, after a little time-out and pep talk he came back to win the last Leics 4 Derbys 1 Owen : This match again saw the passion displayed by these youngsters, Owen winning both his hard fought games & Leics 5 Derbys 1 Ayush : This was one of those games that could have gone either way, unfortunately it wasn’t to be, losing in 2 by & Leics 5 Derbys 2 Lewis : A superb display saw Lewis win in 2, 21-4 & Leics 6 Derbys 2
Next Up Girls Singles Eve: A win for Leics that saw both games go close, & 22-20Leics 7 Derbys 2 Tilly: Again another close match, though this time a reverse result in favour of Derbys, taking the games & Leics 7 Derbys 3 Emily: As Derbys were short of girls in this age group, Emily was pitched against one of their boys, after initial trepidation, Emily fought hard taking the first game 21-8 and the next Leics 8 Derbys 3 Emma: After identifying weak opposition, Emma finished her game quickly and efficiently, securing a 21-3 win in both games. Leics 9 Derbys 3 Sophie: A tough match, playing against one of Derbys better girls, losing the first game 8-21, regrouping in the the second to narrowly lose Leics 9 Derbys 4
Finally Level Doubles Luke & Owen: More diving from both Leics players, narrowly losing in 2, & Ayush & Lewis:A fantastic performance saw Leics win in 2, & Luke & Owen: Another closely fought match, again Leics winning in 2 games, & Ayush & Lewis: A lot of shouting coming from this court, long rallies were the nature of this match, again a narrow win for Leics in 2, & Emily & Emma: A frustrating match that saw Leics lose both games and could have gone either way. Eve & Tilly: A quick easy win for Leics in 2, & Sophie & Emily: Efficiency was the name of the game, finishing in 2 games, a win to Leics, & Eve & Tilly: This was probably one of the best matches all morning (call me biased), it saw Emma changing allegiances to play for Derbys with Katie Reilly, Derbys won the first 17-21, with Leics narrowly winning the second 21-19, this led to the decider, and this was one not to be missed, both sides playing some superb shots, eventually Leics coming out on top winning the last
