EANGUS Legislative Goals Each year, EANGUS works on legislative issues to benefit National Guard members Legislative goals come from the membership See the Point Papers on our website for more details. www.eangus.org Each year, legislative goals are set by the membership of EANGUS. These goals are the marching orders for the National Office. The goals come from the members in state associations, through the Area Legislative committees, to the Resolutions Committee at the national level. At our annual conference, the Resolutions Committee considers each resolution, and then presents the resolutions to the delegates in large session. Once the delegates approve the resolutions, the National Office Legislative Department uses them to develop plans to address them on Capitol Hill by your legislators. The 2012 National Defense Authorization Act: Guard Empowerment President Barack Obama signed the NDAA on December 31st of 2011. It includes a provision giving the Guard’s senior officer, the chief of the National Guard Bureau (NGB), a permanent seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. the Guard’s most significant legislative victory since the Militia Act of 1903 created the modern, dual-mission National Guard. the NDAA enables the NGB chief to sit with the heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Provides the Guard, for the first time, permanent representation among the nation’s senior military officers. Requirements for the Pentagon to delineate Guard and Reserve equipment procurement in future budget requests and to prepare a report to Congress on the costs of Guard and Reserve units. Get Involved Become a Unit Representative We recommend that unit representatives be a junior enlisted service member.  Frees up the senior personnel from additional responsibilities Allows lower enlisted to feel a part of something bigger.  More impactful for the younger service members to hear information about our Association from their peers.  Unit Representatives are responsible for all Association business, i.e. collecting dues, keeping unit apprised of State and National Association news, etc. Bullet 1/3: Hopefully, inspiring them to become a member and get more involved Bullet 2: Monthly Update Emails
