Temporary Rules Adopted for the Season 1.Commercial fishing vessels allowed to retrieve derelict ocean Dungeness crab gear inseason (effective 12/11/07 – 8/28/08) 2.Allow for early replacement of up to 10% (effective 12/14/07) 3.Limited derelict gear retrieval project (2/25/08 – 8/28/08) 4.Increased the number of derelict pots allowed from 6 to 50 (6/11/08 – 8/28/08)
Buoy Tag Replacement 4,202 buoy tags were replaced during the season Buoy tag replacement options with submission of signed declaration of loss. 1.Up to 10% replaced after the first 30 days of the season 2.Catastrophic Loss (Fire, Capsizing, or Sinking) 3.Extraordinary Event (Director’s decision)
Catch and Value of the Dungeness fishery since 1947 As of the end of July, over 12 million pounds have been landed into Oregon with a total value of over $29 million for the season.
Makeup of the Dungeness crab fleet: 432 Limited Entry Permits (Fishery went LE in 1995) are active any given season ( 312 Oregon permits made landings this season)
