DG AGRI, Sheep & Goat Meat AG – 30 May Conclusions Negative  Fragile consumption. High price and difficult financial situation of consumers coincide. In some countries, however, sheep meat consumption increased (IE).  Decreasing flock in Spain: -1.5 mio animals in 2011, -5 mio since 2007 and the trend continues.  High feed cost affecting especially the Southern MS. Positive  High price allowing for some stability in the sector, the total flock in many MS is stable or growing.  Due to the overall economic situation and high unemployment more young people are moving to sheep farming.  The Schmallenberg virus has not had a major impact on the sector.
