INTEGRATION OF ATHLETICS AND ACADEMICS  Key takeaway: Communication is necessary. When there is a concern regarding a student-athlete, it’s most important to call the coach immediately or the Athletic Director.  Department has 2 faculty representatives appointed by the President that work with the department (Cheryl Stuntz and Jim Wallace).  Head coaches have Saints access to academic schedules, GPA’s, midterm warnings (including written warnings) and the student-athlete’s advisor.  Department has a liaison to the academic retention and enhancement committee that is chaired by Evelyn Jennings. This committee includes representatives for the Health Center, Student Life, Disability Services, Academic Support, HEOP and Athletics. The committee meets every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.  Department has a liaison to the Student Life/Residential Coordinators meeting which meets on Monday’s at 3:00 p.m.  Department has a University Mentor Program. The majority of our athletic teams have a volunteer that works with a team to serve as a helpful advisor for athletes.  First-year time management workshops for all first-year students.  Athletic Director sends messages to all head coaches regularly which they relay to their athletes.
