 Following their prey the Native Americans crossed the Bering Strait which was an ice bridge at the time approximately 20,000 years ago and they were nomads people with no permanent home and the food they followed was buffalo.  These nomads were each a separate nation, and they lived in different regions of the earth.  Native Americans were careful not to overuse their resources.  Native Americans were settled in different regions in America. After crossing the Bering Strait.  The coastal regions, such as California and the Northwest Coast, were moist, had mild weather, and contained many animals.  The Plateau and Great Basin were both located between the Sierra Nevada's and Rockies but the Plateau was slightly different because the Plateau had a higher altitude and the Plateau had a cool wet climate but the Great Basin had a severe climate with extremes of hot and cold.  The Great Plains and the Southwest had vast, treeless plains and little to moderate rainfall.  Every group of people have BAM (“The Basic Activities of Man”); it is how they live.  Beginning in the late 1400’s, Europeans began an exploration for the “New World”, and what they found was plenty, including Native Americans.  When the Spanish came around in California, they converted the natives to Catholicism and they also made them dig for gold and they spread their culture to the Indians.  The Portuguese built sugar plantations and they tried to enslave Native Americans (but failed).  The French were a bit kinder. How so?
