WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY THE LORD’S SUPPER Luke 22:14-23 Matthew 26:26-29 Acts 20:7 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 “On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.” “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 “...For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you…... When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal… “...For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you…... When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal…...So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another— if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home—so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. About the other things I will give directions when I come.” “...For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you…... When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal…...So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another— if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home—so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY ONE THINGS STANDS OUT: "TOGETHER” THE LORD’S SUPPER We say 1st day of the week is essential We are careful to observe the order Why not similarly careful to eat “together”? Part of the problem at Corinth: Not Together. The admonition: “Wait for one another”! This is why we don't eat the Lord’s Supper individually, or at home in our bible classes.

WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY ONE THINGS STANDS OUT: "TOGETHER” ONE THINGS STANDS OUT: "TOGETHER” REASONS GIVEN FOR DOING OTHERWISE THE LORD’S SUPPER "We are together” "What's important is that we do it” "There was a 'Make-up' Passover in Nu. 9" “Why are we kept from bringing the Lord's offering at its appointed time among the people of Israel?” “And Moses said to them, “Wait, that I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”

LORD’S SUPPER

WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY ONE THINGS STANDS OUT: "TOGETHER” ONE THINGS STANDS OUT: "TOGETHER” REASONS GIVEN FOR DOING OTHERWISE THE LORD’S SUPPER "We are together” "What's important is that we do it” "There was a 'Make-up' Passover in Nu. 9” But if Numbers 9 were our precedent...

THE LORD’S SUPPER TWO QUESTIONS: Why plan to do other than what we all agree should be the goal? If we could start with a clean slate—no exposure to anyone's traditions, just a willingness to do exactly what we read in the Bible—what would we do?
