Order of the Universe From Largest To Smallest

Universe All of space and what is found in it. Full of 100 billion galaxies with 100 billion stars each.

Super Cluster Cluster of clusters of galaxies, which include the local group. Largest gravitational bound system so far. Ours=Local Super Cluster

Cluster A small group of galaxies. They are held together by gravity and orbit each other. Ours = Local Group Milky Way Galaxy and its 34 closest neighbors. “Local” means the galaxies are within a region 3 million light years across.

Galaxy A vast collection of dust , gas, and stars held together by gravity. Ours = Milky Way

Sun’s Neighbors The sun and its 20 closest neighboring stars. Some of Ours = Proxima Centauri; Aplha Centauri

Solar System A group of satellites revolving around a star. Ours = The sun and its collection of 8 planets.

Star A hot, bubbling, glowing ball of gas. It radiates a huge amount of energy in forms of light and heat. Ours = The Sun

Planet An object that revolves around a star. Ours = The Earth

Natural Satellite An object that revolves around a planet Ours = The Moon; Diana
