<> Readme These photographs were taken by Alan Rodgers and Angella Streluk in August They have been made into this resource to form part of the QCA Island Home unit. Other resources and teacher’s notes can be found in the Naace Primary Focus on Geography pack. The map is not intended for use in navigating the island. Certain licence has been taken with the positioning of some images, although the vast majority are fairly accurately placed.

< Click on the hotspots on the Isle of Coll.

Helicopters can cross the sea. They get to the island quickly.

Little trucks get round the narrow roads easily. They are good for workmen.

Vans can come to the island on the ferry. They can bring parcels for everybody.

The police and ambulance services have helicopters. They can take people to hospital on the mainland. They can bring policemen or doctors to the island.

Almost all of the roads are narrow. Can you see the grass growing on the road? This is one of the few straight roads.

This is the taxi on Coll. It can go where there is no road. It can carry visitors on tours round the island.

This minibus carries volunteers to the Project Trust. It is a long way from the ferry to the Project Trust base. They could not walk.

If you haven’t got a helicopter or boat you will most likely arrive by ferry. You can drive on in a vehicle or walk onto the ferry.

Some holiday makers come to Coll in their yacht. It might be their own yacht or they might have hired it for their holiday. Click here to find out how they get to the shop!

The people who work on the roads get round the island in this van. They can take all their tools and materials with them.

The rubbish still needs collecting on an island. The rubbish truck arrives on the ferry. It takes the rubbish away on the ferry.

The fuel station sells fuel for cars and for boats. It does not open for a long time because there are not many customers.

The farmer uses his tractor to pull trailers. This trailer can carry sheep.

If you have a boat you can get to the mainland without a ferry. You can go on outings to the other islands. Some boats give sea trips to visitors.

People still like to have a car. It is good for visiting friends on the island. They can go to the mainland but they have to pay to take their car onto the ferry.

You can go from your yacht to the pier in your little dingy. You can then look round the island and go to the shops.
