Direct Object Pronouns Un Repaso

What is a direct Object? A direct object receives the action of the verb Ie. I smacked Zeboor’s Mom. I= Subject (the “doer” of the sentence) Smacked= Verb (the action) Zeboor’s Mom= Direct Object (the “done to”)

Let’s try it again…. Will wore a pretty red dress. Subject= Will Verb= Wore Direct Object= A pretty red dress

pronoun? What is a direct object pronoun? We use a direct object pronoun to avoid sounding silly. For example, we wouldn’t tell a story like this: Zeboor went to the store to buy milk. He brought the milk home, put the milk on the counter, and gave the milk to his cats. More often, we replace the direct object with a pronoun…like this: Zeboor went to the store to buy milk. He brought it home, and put it on the counter, and then gave it to his cats.

In English… The direct Pronouns are: Me You Him/her/it Us Y’all Them, You guys

In Spanish: Me (me) Te (you) Lo (him/it) La (her/it) Nos (us) Os (y’all) Los (them/you guys) Las (them/You guys)

Pronoun Placement: A direct object pronoun can be placed before a conjugated verb or attached to the end of an infinitive. Mr. Spencer threw the cheese. Mr. Spencer tiró el queso. Mr. Spencer lo tiró. Mr. Spencer threw it.

If there is an infinitive… I want to eat a chalupa. Yo quiero comprar una chalupa. In this case, you have two options….. Yo la quiero comprar. OR Yo quiero comprarla.

A few more examples… First, translate “as is,” then replace the direct object with the appropriate pronoun… Do you have the salt? la sal ?Tienes la sal? La ?La tienes?

One more…. Mr. Pfirman sold his pink pants through Ebay. Mr. Pfirman vendió sus pantalones rosados por Ebay. Mr. Pfirman los vendió por Ebay.
