The Inuit are the original inhabitants or the native people of the northern Canadian Arctic. Inuit lands also include the northeastern tip of Siberia, the islands of the Bering sea, and the coastal regions of mainland Alaska. The Inuit are people who lived from Bering Strait to East Greenland. They also have close relatives in Russia. There are about 40,000 Inuit in Canada. Before we used to call the Inuit “Eskimo.” The Inuksuk is a stone landmark used as a directional marker by the Inuit of the Canadian Arctic.

First Nations are another Indigenous peoples of North America and Canada whom we used to call “Indians.”They lived in every province and territory in canada.

The Metis were people who called themselves “The Forgotten People.” The word “METIS” means “to mix.”The word was used to describe the children of Indian mothers and European fathers. The Metis were also called by many other names including: Country-born, Black Scots, Metis anglaise, and The Flower Bead Work People.. Louis Riel was a famous Metis. He was born October 22, 1844 and hung as a traitor on November 16, 1885.He was said to be a traitor to Canada, but he was no traitor. He was a patriot who stood up for his people. Louis Riel was hung because he was part Indian and some people didn’t like him.
