What do we look for?

This political cartoon signifies the order in which each country joined the war and why. Serbia started it all when they shot Austria-Hungary's archduke, Franz Ferdinand. Austria- Hungary then wanted to punish Serbia, but serbia had an alliance with Russia who joined the war to back Serbia up. Germany was friends with Austria- Hungary, France was buddies with Russia, and every country in one of these two alliances eventually joined the war. It became a chain of countries trying to protect eachother, all starting with Serbia.
