Red Taylor Swift By: Alexa Durand and Erika McLaren

"Red" Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you're already flying through the free fall Like the colors in autumn, so bright just before they lose it all Losing him was blue like I'd never known Missing him was dark grey all alone Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met But loving him was red Loving him was red Touching him was like realizing all you ever wanted was right there in front of you Memorizing him was as easy as knowing all the words to your old favorite song Fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there's no right answer Regretting him was like wishing you never found out that love could be that strong Losing him was blue like I'd never known Missing him was dark grey all alone Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met But loving him was red Oh, red Burning red

Remembering him comes in flashbacks and echoes Tell myself it's time now, gotta let go But moving on from him is impossible When I still see it all in my head In burning red Burning, it was red Oh, losing him was blue like I'd never known Missing him was dark grey all alone Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met 'Cause loving him was red Yeah, yeah, red We're burning red And that's why he's spinnin' 'round in my head Comes back to me, burning red Yeah, yeah His love was like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street

Poetic Devices Simile “Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you're already flying through the free fall” She compares loving him and flying through a free fall using like “Losing him was blue like I'd never known” She compares losing him and being blue using like “Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met” She compares forgetting him and trying to know someone you have never met using like “Touching him was like realizing all you ever wanted was right there in front of you” She compares touching him and realizing all you ever wanted was right in front of you with like

Simile “Memorizing him was as easy as knowing all the words to your old favorite song” This is an example of a simile because she is comparing Memorizing him and the words to your favourite song using as “Fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there's no right answer.” She compares fighting and a crossword puzzle using like “Regretting him was like wishing you never found out that love could be that strong” She compares regretting him and wishing you never found love using like “Oh, losing him was blue like I'd never known” She compares losing him and being blue using like “His love was like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street” She compares his love and a new Maserati using like

Hyperbole “Faster than the wind” This is a hyperbole because it is an over exaggeration saying that love can be faster than wind. “But moving on from him is impossible” This is a hyperbole because it is not impossible to move on from someone and it is an over exaggeration. “And that's why he's spinnin' 'round in my head” This is a hyperbole because someone can not physically be spinning in your head.

Metaphor “Passionate as sin” Comparing Passionate and Sin “Loving him was red” Comparing love to being red “Losing him was blue” Comparing losing him and being blue

Imagery “Remembering him comes in flashbacks and echoes” This is an example of Imagery because it makes you picture flashbacks and hear echoes in your head “Like the colors in autumn, so bright just before they lose it all” When she says this you picture a beautiful autumn day

Assonance And that's why he's spinnin' 'round in my head Comes back to me, burning red This would be an example of assonance because the words “head” and “red” use the same e sound Faster than the wind, passionate as sin This is assonance because the words “wind” and “sin” use the same I sounds.

Tone Taylor Swift has very a very intense attitude toward her song red. In a past interview she explained "I wrote this song about the fact that some things are just hard to forget," she said, "because the emotions involved with them were so intense and, to me, intense emotion is red.” You can tell that her tone toward the song is quite depressing and gloomy.

Mood The mood of the song is very lonely and dreary. The song is constantly saying how she will never move on and how Losing him was the worst thing that ever happened to her.

This song is about many different things. It is about Taylor Swifts love and how it comes to a screaming halt and ends. "Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street". It talks about how passionate Taylor is for this guy and how it ends so fast, "Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly". The main idea of the song is evolved around the word "red" and she explains that "loving him was red" and what she means by that is to her intense emotions are red. Song Interpretation

We picked this song because it is one of our favorite songs by Taylor swift, and we felt that is had good deep meaning and would be a good song for this assignment. "Losing him was blue like I'd never know, Missing him was dark grey all alone, Forgetting him was like trying to know someone you never met" these lines have great meaning, and make so much sense to me, they make you think about what that is like to you or what it might be like. This song is passionate and meaningful and that is why we chose to use it for this assignment. Reflection
