Montana Youth Court Act Serves to improve the juvenile justice system through planning, research and development of statewide juvenile justice programs.

What is the state system like today? Unlike Adult Probation and Parole within the state, Juvenile Probation must be dealt with prior to seeing the judge. If you are under the age of 18, and commit a crime (except for traffic offenses) you must be accompanied by your parents to see a probation officer before appearing in court.

Probation District Courts administer services from the funds within the state of Montana. Probation officers are placed within all the 22 of the state’s judicial districts A college education and prior experience in the work-field is a must to be an officer.

The 3 Branches of the Government Judicial Legislative Executive

Judicial Branch The management and budget changed substantially in July 2002 under legislation that provided for state assumption of certain general jurisdiction court expenses—including Youth Court expenses. Developed statewide standards and practices related to judicial management of juvenile justice services.

Legislative Branch Determines state funding. The legislative power is vested in a legislature consisting of a senate and a house of representatives. The people reserve to themselves the powers of initiative and referendum.
