Forest Service began project in 1984 Taken over by the University of Montana Contains approximately 100 taped interviews with transcripts or summaries Digitization Project 30 interviews digitized through a BCR Collaborative Digitization Program sound model grant Goals Provide archival quality digital copy for preservation Provide easily streamed version of content for student /faculty research

Descriptive Metadata Users need to be able to search by keyword, subject, interviewee, date, time period, location. Technical Metadata Accurate representation of original recording and digital versions for preservation purposes Administrative Metadata Provide accurate information concerning rights and usage Consider Interoperability and Semantic Web to increase/maintain future access to collection
