Focus on Advancement: Troop Planning Complete Joining Requirements in the 1 st Month Ensure the PLC plans to incorporate appropriate skills as they plan Feb/March Troop meeting agendas Ensure the SPL incorporates the new scouts in opening ceremonies Advancement Campout focused on Tenderfoot and 2 nd Class requirements for new Scouts. 1 st Class or Life requirements for older Scouts Custom Brown Sea program done during Summer Camp Utilization of the Target 1 st Class report to plan

Advancement Campout Based on signup sheet for the event build a customized program suited for the Scout attending. The signup sheet has a column for those needing the 1 st class cooking requirements to sign up to be a patrol cook (1 st come 1 st serve). Involve the older Scouts to plan and execute Advancement Skills. Really sell the event to both the Scouts and Parents. Discussion of this campout starts as soon as the new Scouts join the Troop.

Brown Sea Custom Summer Camp Program A customized program focused on the 1 st year Scouts. Program is run for 2 hours each of 5 mornings during summer camp within the Troop Campsite. Program is flexible and built using up to date requirement needs based on the Target First Class report. Program gives focused time on requirements needed to make the rank of 1 st class while allowing Scouts to earn 2 merit badges and participate in all Summer Camp activities.

Results Planning and executing our Advancement Program allows a Scout to take advantage of the opportunities to advance in rank at a steady pace. Average Time to Rank Tenderfoot 4.5 Months Second Class9.4 Months First Class15.9 Months This program allows for the older Scouts to get involved and working with the younger Scouts. With the new EDGE requirements for the Life rank, this program will give those Scouts opportunities to earn those requirements.
