EQ: What are the main events surrounding European imperialism in India during the 19th century? Main Idea: By the mid-1800s, the BEIC controlled 3/5 of India #1: The British were able to conquer India so easily because of its diversity…they were NOT able to unify and fight the British #2: The main imperial goal of the BEIC in India was profit, though they did improve India’s infrastructure (built roads, railroads, ports and implement social changes) Main Idea: There were several causes and results of the Sepoy Rebllion #3: British violation of Hindu religious beliefs, such as forcing Indians overseas to serve as troops and making them eat animal fats on gun cartridges upset the Sepoys #4: The result of this rebellion was increased mistrust of Indians for British people AND the BEIC lost its direct control over India
