Programming The Hexcorder To play a sound bite in English click on the speaker symbol at the bottom of each slide

Starting the Hexcorder Turn the Hexcorder ON by pressing the upper right yellow key, before suiting up with your equipment, to allow the GPS engine time to acquire the satellites.

Main Menu Hexcorder Main Menu 1 - Survey 2 – Setup 3 – Export Data 4 – Change time 5 – Test EM – Erase Memory W – Wave G – GPS ON/OFF OF – Turn Unit OFF

Programming the Hexcorder Press 2 for setup If this is a new project erase the memory first. Displays current programming. Press A to accept or C to change programming Tip after erasing the memory you must go through the set-up procedure

Change File Name Press N to Add a File Name to the File Number. The file name must consist of 8 characters, letters, numbers or spaces can be used.

Survey Mode Here You Select the survey type Close Interval Data Logger CIPS + DCVG DCVG

Distance Standard Press C to toggle between Metres and Feet Select Distance measurement Standard then press A to Accept

Measurement method Press C to toggle Between: Non Interrupted High/Low (Interrupted) GPS Synchronized Select method and Press A to Accept

Rectifier OFF Time Enter the rectifier OFF time in Milliseconds from To 9999 milliseconds

Rectifier ON Time Enter the ON time in milliseconds From To 99999 milliseconds

OFF Measurement Delay Enter the delay time in milliseconds after the rectifiers turn off before measuring the OFF potential Tip Must be Between 10 milliseconds and 150milliseconds Typically Set to 100 Milliseconds

Input Impedance Press 1 for 10M Ohm input impedence

Power System Frequency The Hexcorder needs to know the power system frequency for AC filtering Press C to toggle between 50 and 60 Hz.

Store GPS Coordinates You have the option of storing GPS coordinates in all three survey methods. Y = Store N = Don’t Store

Measurement Trigger M = Manual – Push Button on half cell stick A = Automatic Time Distance

Program The Hexcorder Now Returns to The Program Window If Program Correct Press A to Accept If Incorrect Press C to Change the Program

Return to Main Menu When A is pressed to accept the set-up program the Hexcorder returns to the main menu If 1 is pressed for survey the following additional questions must be answered

Chainage Enter the chainage for the starting point of the survey. There is NO decimal Point on the Keyboard Do not enter “0” then set the increment to -ve Tip Negative chainages are not allowed

Distance Incrementation The Hexcorder will add or subtract distance from the entered chainage To add to the chainage set incrementation to + To subtract from the chainage set incrementation to -

Survey Description Type in a description of the survey Press the ENTER key when finished

Returns to Main Menu The Hexcorder Returns to the Main Menu Press 1 to start surveying NOTE: There may be a delay in GPS synchronized waiting for Satellite Acquisition

CIPS + DCVG Survey Screen Screen Displays: Pipe-to-Soil Potential Rectifier ON & OFF mV Voltage Gradient Record # = Readings Taken Chainage (Distance) GPS Coordinates, % memory used, Elevation, PDOP Value

Quick Menu In survey Mode the Quick Menu can be Called Up by Pressing the WHITE MENU KEY The Quick Menu is editable from 5 = Test in the Main Menu

Survey Graph Mode Graph Display Press and Hold the G key for 5 seconds to access the Graph display To return to Numeric Display Press and Hold G Key for 5 seconds Numeric Display

Graph Display Range When G is Pressed for Graphical Display, The Hexcorder asks for the Voltage Range for the display, Select: 1 = 0- 2000 mV 2 = 0 to -3500 mV 3 = +5000 to –5000 mV

Waveform Waveform can be accessed from the Main Menu press S for Scope or from the Quick menu, press 2 for Waveform Waveforms verify synchronization of the Interrupters Take at Least 2 per Day

RESET Press the Two Yellow Keys simultaneously at any time to return to the main Menu

Other Features From the Main Menu other Features Can be Accessed 3 = Export Data 4 = Change Time 5 = Test S = Scope (Waveform) G = Turn GPS engine ON & OFF EM = Erase Memory

Export Data Menu To Export Data, connect the Hexcorder to the com port on your computer. Configure Hyper-Terminal and the Hexcorder for: 38,400 Baud No Parity I stop Bit X ON X OFF Software Control

Export Data Directory Pressing D when in the Export Data menu displays the files stored in memory and their size.

Export Data Select Survey files to export, either single files with F or all files with G Select Waveform Files to Export, W for single File, E for all files

Change Time The Hexcorder is equipped with an internal clock, This clock is used when the GPS engine is not active and should be set to the current date and time. yy = year mm = month dd = Day w = day of week Sunday = 1 hh = hour mm = minutes ss = seconds

Erase Memory Erase the memory after your data is backed up and archived. Press E+M together to erase the memory, The Hexcorder Queries with are you sure Y/N

5 = Test K = Keyboard Test Use to Check Which Keys are Working M = Memory, Test the Memory E = EPROM test the Firmware Q = Quick menu (edit the quick menu) A = Alarm Settings

K = Keyboard Test Pressing K from the Test Menu Screen lets you test all 40 keys of the Keyboard, use this if you thing a key is not working.

M = Memory Test Press M from the Main Menu for Memory test, this fully test the main menu where data is stored. DO NOT Touch The Keyboard while test is in progress

E = EPROM TEST This test the FIRMWARE, do not touch the keyboard during the test

Q = Quick Menu Pressing Q lets you edit the quick menu 8 characters are required per Key, use space to fill unused characters. The curser moves automatically

A = Alarms From the Main Menu the following features can be activated or seen Alarms Potential/Distance PDOP

Alarms The Hexcorder is equipped with alarms for: Distance/Potential PDOP Press C to Toggle between Enabled & Disabled A to accept

Alarms PDOP Press C to Toggle between Enabled & Disabled If Enabled enter the PDOP Alarm Value from 1 to 15 NOTE: It is recommended that you enter a value greater than 6

Twice Per Day Capture a Waveform S = Scope From the Main Menu Press S for Scope (Waveform) Waveforms verify that your interrupters are synchronized Twice Per Day Capture a Waveform

Data Security At the end of the day or more frequently the data should be down loaded to a PC and backed up on the hard drive and on a diskette For added security editing of the survey data can not be accomplished after it is stored in the HEXCORDER’s memory.

Data Format The data can be exported in three formats: ASCII comma delimited Hexadecimal ProActive

Software Special software is not required with the CATH-TECH™ HEXCORDER survey system Windows Hyper Terminal is used to down load the data. Microsoft Excel or other spread sheet program is used to graph the data
