Answer: He convinced millions of Americans that he had the ability to make it happen that he had the vision to make it happen and that he had the will to make it happen. Remember his 2 election themes Yes we can and The time for change is now © EPS Comms Limited

Question: How did he persuade his fellow Americans to vote for him? Answer: He used good old-fashioned oratory. He used the power of his voice He used the power of his body language And above all He used the power of rhetoric © EPS Comms Limited

Question: Does this just apply to Obama? Answer: No It applies to all political leaders It applies to all business leaders and It applies to all managers © EPS Comms Limited

Question: What are these key persuasive techniques again? Answer: The basic techniques of oratory, which are How to master the power of your voice How to master your body language And How to master the power of rhetoric © EPS Comms Limited

Question: What do we recognise in people who are skilled in these techniques? Answer: We have positive feelings about them We say they are charismatic We say they are good leadership material We say they have development potential © EPS Comms Limited

Question: Where is all this leading? What is the problem? Answer: Most people, especially when they present, are nervous. That results in poor techniques. We hear it in their voice: weak, droning We see it in their body language: awkward, stiff and We notice it in their rhetoric: weak, no impact © EPS Comms Limited

Question: Why does it matter especially for Managers? Answer: Managers need strong persuasive and motivational techniques To persuade and motivate managers and peers To persuade and motivate customers To persuade and motivate associates in other businesses And like Obama That they have the ability to make it happen That they have the vision to make it happen and That they have the will to make it happen © EPS Comms Limited

Question: Where are these persuasive techniques most important? Answer: In every significant communication, including: Internal Presentations Team Meetings or One-to-One External Events © EPS Comms Limited

Question: Just now you talked about techniques. Surely they are things we are born with? Answer: No! They are techniques. And Techniques must be learned Techniques must be practiced Techniques must be applied © EPS Comms Limited

Question: So who can teach us the techniques? Answer: Actors are masters of Voice and Body Language and Rhetoricians are masters of Rhetoric © EPS Comms Limited

Question: So are the ideal trainers just a mix of Actors and Rhetoricians? Answer: Yes and No! Actors tend to be unstructured while Rhetoricians tend to be too un-feeling. Like oil and water, they don’t mix well! You need Actors who can teach and Rhetoricians with outstanding people skills. © EPS Comms Limited

Question: Where can you find this ideal mix? Answer: Our actors are all professionally trained, and often they are teachers in drama schools and We have experts in content who train Rhetoric, Presentation Structure, and Scripting in an engaging and interesting way © EPS Comms Limited

Question: Don’t other training companies offer the same? Answer: No! We have studied the UK market. We are unique! Other companies train in acting techniques or they teach you about content No other training companies in UK can integrate, coach and deliver the acting techniques and content techniques. © EPS Comms Limited

Question: How does do it? Answer: See the next slide … © EPS Comms Limited
