MOVE…GROOVE… AND SET THE WORLD ABLAZE! THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE

RATIONALE This June 2012, CFC will be celebrating our 31 ST Anniversary, ushering in a new springtime of evangelization in our community as we live out this year’s theme, “Proclaim the Greatness of the Lord”! And this year, we take on the theme, “ABLAZE”, for our anniversary celebration, continuing the passion, dedication and commitment for the mission that has been set ‘ON FIRE’ at the CFC Leaders Conference in Araneta.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE RATIONALE This urges us to explore new ways to evangelize and spread the Good News to others, so more and more people may truly experience God’s Greatness! So with this in mind, we launch this idea to use something currently popular all over the globe to make God known to non-CFC members in a fun and creative way --- through a flash mob dance.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE BACKGROUNDER A ‘flash mob’ is an organized routine of a group of performers working together on a large scale to surprise and amuse the general public for a temporary period of time with a spontaneous performance. This is usually organized through telecommunications, social media, or viral s. Flash mob performances can include dances, songs or even record-breaking attempts. But the most common type of flash mob that often creates the biggest spectacle is the ‘flash mob dance’.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE GUIDELINES The CFC Flash Mob Dance is the highlight of this year’s Anniversary Parade. This will be participated in by members of CFC and its Ministries from selected areas. Each Metro Manila sector is encouraged to come up with one entry. Their entries will involve two main parts:  Organizing a flash mob dance event in their area prior to the anniversary celebration, which will then be properly documented (video).  Performing the flash mob dance routine during the Anniversary Parade, while their video is being played onscreen.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE GUIDELINES Each Philippine region, as well as International region (Asia, Oceania, The Americas, Europe, Africa), is also encouraged to have at least one province or country organize a flash mob dance to represent the region. The video of their flash mob event will also be shown onscreen during the anniversary parade, with or without the actual performance of the dance routine, considering the financial and logistical challenge of bringing all performers of the flash mob to Manila on anniversary day.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Understand the purpose of the flash mob – This endeavor is aimed towards creating opportunities to ‘proclaim God’s greatness’ in an entertaining and enjoyable way that wouldn’t put off the unsuspecting public. It’s a chance to show the world that life with God is a great adventure, and it is fun and exciting.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Decide what you’re going to do for your flash mob occasion – The success of a flash mob performance depends on the originality, liveliness and attractiveness of the event. So come up with a concept that has your own mark of originality (although inspired by something you may have already seen somewhere), and is relevant to our goals. Feel free to research on previous flash mob events, especially on Youtube.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Choose a song and find someone to choreograph the dance – Before gathering a ‘mob of dancers’, you’ll need a dance. When choosing your music, find an upbeat, danceable secular song that can be ‘mashed up’ (combined) with a religious song, to come up with something that will attract CFC members and non- members alike. Total performance time should not exceed 5 minutes.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Song choices should be submitted to CFC Events as early as possible, so as to prevent song duplication among entries. Keep the choreography simple and wholesome, yet entertaining. Bear in mind that we are doing this to bear witness to God’s influence in our lives as members of the CFC community, so our movements, as well as our choice of costumes and props, should also be a reflection of this.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Choose your spot for the dance and know the limitations of your location – A park or square is a great spot, especially during lunch hour or after work when everyone is heading home. The more public and random, the better to draw attention. It might be best to also consider proximity to majority of your dancers. Know also the local laws with respect to large gatherings, making sure it’s not illegal to hold such event in the venue you’ve chosen.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: While there is obviously a balance between encouraging people to watch and blocking people from getting on with their usual activities, you need to judge that your flash mob won’t be the cause of emergency or unlawful situations. In the event that the police or some other local authority requests that your group leave, please do so quietly and peacefully. This should be made clear to all the performers even before the actual performance.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Gather a group of dancers – Flash mob dances can include any number of people, but for our purpose, aim for at least performers. It may sound like a lot to arrange, but the more people you have, the more impact the flash mob creates. Make good use of online resources like social media networks (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), s, instant messaging (Yahoo Messenger, iMessage, BlackBerry Messenger, etc.), text messaging, and other means to gather and give instructions to your flash mob.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Teach the dance routine and provide clear instructions to your flash mob – The best way to teach the routine is to come up with an instructional video and post it in Youtube (but not for public viewing, so as not to spoil the surprise). If possible, show two perspectives (front and back view), thus allowing your dancers to learn the dance by accessing the Youtube link, even if they can’t go to the rehearsals.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: However, it’s best if you set at least one general rehearsal to bring everything together, and give final instructions. You can also opt to schedule rehearsals in smaller groups of people first, before the general rehearsal, to make it more manageable.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Choose a flash mob dance leader and/or core group of dancers – This person, or group of dancers, will set the beat and provide the following point for the rest of your flash mob dancers. The leader can start the routine with a solo dance move, and then attract the next group of dancers who will join in the next move. Then you can double the group’s size with more dancers joining in, until the entire group is finally involved. The trick to a good flash mob dance is to gradually get all the dancers involved in the routine.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Arrange for any props or costumes, as well as music player needed – It’s best to ask the participants to bring their own props or to organize their own costume. Aim for simple clothes and items, or things that people already have in their wardrobe or house. Also try to keep the element of surprise as much as possible, so if you plan on using CFC – FLAME shirts for costumes and other novelty items for props, you might want to think of a gimmick to conceal them until just before your performance.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: As for the music player, it’s best to have one that is simple (like a boom box powered by batteries) and wouldn’t need to be tapped to a power source in the location you’ve chosen.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE How to Organize: Organize quality videography or video documentation of the event – Since a video of your flash mob dance will be shown during the actual anniversary day, you’d need to organize people to document the event. Different footages will enable you to edit and come up with a more dynamic and creative video.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE Performance at Anniv. Parade: The flash mob dancers per Metro Manila big sector will be performing the dance routine again during the Anniversary Parade, while their video is being played onscreen.

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE Performance at Anniv. Parade: Flash mob performances will be interspersed by walking parade participants from their areas, who will be required to wear the CFC Anniversary shirts. CFC banners of their area, as well as other gimmick and props are highly encouraged to contribute to the festive mood of the parade.

Assembly area assignment is as follows: Manila Hotel side – CFC International Council, International Delegates, Metro Manila (Big South and Big East), Luzon (North-Eastern Luzon, North-Western Luzon, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Bicol Region)

Parade: Allocation for walking parade participants per area is as follows: Metro Manila small sector – 50 people per small sector, headed by their Sector Governance Teams Philippine provinces – at least the PAH and/or PAD, and members of their Provincial Council International delegations (per country) – at least the Country Coordinator and members of their Governance Teams (encouraged to bring their country flags)

THE CFC FLASH MOB DANCE Performance at Anniv. Parade: To ensure the excellence and order of our anniversary parade, we require all flash mob dancers to attend the General Rehearsal on June 29, Friday, 7PM at the Quirino Grandstand. Blocking will be done on a first come, first served basis, then we will have the full run from start to finish. Those areas that will come in late might not be able to have their blocking before the full run, so we encourage everyone to come early. Submission of flash mob dance videos will be on or before June 22, Friday, at the CFC Events Office.
