Presentation transcript:

Luke 4:18–30 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed……

19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” 20 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled……

in your hearing.” 22 And all spoke well of him and marveled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth. And they said, “Is not this Joseph’s son?” 23 And he said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself……

What we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.” 24 And he said, “Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. 25 But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah……

when the heavens were shut up three years and six months, and a great famine came over all the land, 26 and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 And there were many lepers……

in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.” 28 When they heard these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. 29 And they rose up and drove him out of the town……

and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff. 30 But passing through their midst, he went away.

Jesus had a mission.

Vision answers the question: What we want to do?

Mission answers the question: What we’re doing to accomplish it?

Luke 4:18–19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed……

19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Jesus had values.

Values answers the questions: How we do it right?

Obedience Luke 11:28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Inclusive Luke 14:12–14 He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors……

…… lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

Mercy Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Service Luke 22:26–27 But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27 For who is the greater, one who reclines at……

table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves.

Submission Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

Forgiveness Luke 23:34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.

Jesus had confidence.

Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Vision only grows when it’s fertilized (with mission) and watered (with values).

In the next 15 years, our vision is that, every man, woman, boy and girl living in the DL (2) Triangle will hear about Jesus and be touched by His love through someone partnering with Hickory Ridge.

Connect real people, to a real God, through real relationships.

Following Jesus: Our goal is to live like Jesus, not just in word, but in action, and teach others to do the same.

Praying Effectually: Prayer moves the heart of God as we expect to see our prayers answered.

Serving Intentionally: Giving our time, energy and resources for maximum impact in advancing God’s Kingdom.

Living Graciously: Allowing others to grow while protecting the unity Christ sought for His followers.

Strengthening Families: Helping every person experience deeper, healthier, and more meaningful relationships.

Developing Leaders: Invest into people, that they may be released to accomplish all God has purposed for them.

Vision only grows when it’s fertilized (with mission) and watered (with values).
