Luke Donald Chardonnay 2007 Born and raised in England, professional golfer Luke Donald has an affinity for the great white Burgundies of France. This is the inspiration behind his Luke Donald Collection Chardonnay from Carneros, a wine that reflects Luke’s passion for elegant, well-balanced Chardonnay. With an emphasis on crisp, clean minerality, and a restrained use of oak, this Chardonnay highlights the cooler climate and rich soils of Carneros, and is crafted in a style that pairs well with a wide variety of foods: from veal, chicken and risotto dishes, to shellfish, whitefish and even salmon. Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay Fermentation: Whole-cluster pressed to tank, inoculated with yeast and then racked to barrel and barrel-fermented in French oak, 33% new. The wine is allowed to complete the Malolactic fermentation to enhance the fruit complexity that comes from the Carneros soil. Lees were stirred every two weeks. Luke Donald, the pro golfer, is behind this Carneros white. Lots of citrusy tartness on the palate with just the right touch of oaky sweetness. The combination of punch down and pump overs ensure maximum extraction of grape flavors and tannins. This red wine combines Ernie's preference for Bordeaux blends with Jean's love for Shiraz. The result is a rich and rewarding wine that displays a flavor intensity whi ch is truly memorable. RATING – 92 points Ripe but restrained, with a core of plum sauce, melted licorice, tar and braised fig held in check for now by ample fine-grained tannins. Luke Donald Claret displays structured tannins, intertwined with vibrant flavors of black berries and subtle spice notes, producing a wine ripe with flavor and supple texture.
