Presentation transcript:

 Why did the Pharisee invite Jesus over?  ‘Rules of Etiquette’ very different then...  Kiss on cheek or hand for welcome.  Washing dust off feet for comfort.  Oil on head and hair to freshen up.  Jesus got no ‘common kindness’  Simon memorized OT by age 15 (with 300 prophesies about the Messiah!)  He knew about but did not know Jesus!

 Mary (John 12:3) brought expensive perfume, worth a years wages, for Jesus  She loved Jesus deeply and showed it.  Picture dark background (Simon) with beautiful Gem (Mary’s love).  Something to tell Simon: parable of two debts forgiven. Simon easily gets it...  … but not that he is forgiven/loves little.  We know about Jesus, do we love him?

 “Do you love me?” Tevye & Golde in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’  Sad to just go through the motions, yet real love can and must be expressed.  Grace is God comes to one seeking Jesus for wrong reasons, not much love.  Grace overwhelmed Mary, forgiveness!  Confrontation or Comfort from Jesus?  Fan… or comforted follower loving Him.

 Jesus asks everyone Tevye’s question: “Do you love me?”  Jesus takes away guilt of sin, replace with Love!  “Your faith has saved you; go in peace”  Not just about forgiveness, free to love!  Follow him, know him intimately, be more and more like him, and do his will!
