“He Saw Their Faith” Luke 5:20 “Faith Only” is a very popular doctrine! “We are justified by faith only” (Meth. Disc.) “Salvation is yours the very moment you believe” (Fellowship For Christ) “Just believe and say this prayer” (Many different tracts from denominational churches)

Faith is Absolutely Necessary John 3:16; 8:24; Heb. 11:6; Mk. 16:16; Acts 16:31 BUT, Which Kind of Faith? ? No faith (Mk. 4:40) ? Some faith, but not enough to confess (Jn. 12:42-43) ? Little faith (Matt. 14:31) ? Dead faith (Jas. 2:20) ? Mustard seed faith (Lk. 7:9) ? Sincere faith (1 & 2 Tim. 1:5) ? Holy Faith (Jude 20)

Saving Faith = Comes…Hears…Does 46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. Saving Faith = Comes…Hears…Does Wise built on solid foundation—the Word of God Foolish built on sand: – Traditions & commandments of men (Matt. 15:1-14) – Own Thoughts (2 Kgs. 5:11; Jer. 10:23) – Broken cisterns (Jer. 2:13) – False religions (1 Kgs. 18:26) Either building on Christ or something else that will fail (Matt. 12:30)

Saving Faith Can Be Seen 17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18 Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. 19 And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. 20 When He saw their faith, He said to him, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” Faith Only Would NOT Have Healed This Man!

Saving Faith Works When Human Reasoning Cannot Understand “At Your Word” (Lk. 5:5) Human Reasoning could not see the great catch of fish! Other’s could see Peter’s faith as he went out to the deep.

God Can See Faith Inwardly & Outwardly Solomon prayed— “then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men)” – 1 Kgs. 8:39. Jonah 3:10; Lk. 3:7-14 Repentance, like faith, is an inward act, but it is expressed in action. A saving faith cannot be hidden (Jas. 2:18)

Our Faith Can Be Seen When… Study God’s Word (Psa. 1:1-2) Biblical principles guide our homes (Eph. 5:22-6:4) We worship as God commands (Jn. 4:24) Preach pure gospel (Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 15:1) Help those who cannot help us (Lk. 6:31-36) Refrain from sin when alone (Gen. 39:9) Live pure in wicked world (Acts 2:40) Obey gospel plan of salvation (Heb. 5:9)
