The Helper A Study of the Holy Spirit by Catherine Marshall Part 2.4 How do I receive the Helper? Inviting Jesus as the Baptizer Page 65

How do I receive the Helper? Inviting Jesus as the Baptizer Jesus was baptized by John, not to remove HIS sin, but to show that John was the proclaimer of the light and the truth and the WAY! John 1:33 33 I did not recognize [a] Him, but He who sent me to baptize [b] in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes [c] in the Holy Spirit.’abc John 15:26 26 “When the [a] Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,a Page 65: “Jesus is the only one who can baptize us with the Spirit. That is why there must always be the 1 st step of commitment to Jesus (“Being Born Again”) before we can receive the fullness of the Spirit.

Catherine Marshall page 66 We know that the fullness of the Spirit could not be given until Pentecost. By “Breathing upon them” was not Jesus dramatizing for His apostles the fact that the Holy Spirit could only be imparted by His breath? 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:22 The Spirit MUST BE connected to His own Person (Jesus).

The Trinity – Three in One (Not separate beings) Christians can receive the Spirit in no other way, except by Jesus, the Baptizer God - The Father - Creator Jesus the Son – Redeemer Spirit – the Comforter - Sustainer Creator Redeemer Sustainer You CANNOT know who God or Jesus is unless the SPIRIT has prepared your heart. Page 11 – God Himself had carefully planted The curiosity within me.

Page 67 The Spirit Comes Graham Pulkingham and David Wilkerson All awareness of the men and their prayers of the room, and even of myself was obliterated by the immense presence of God’s power… the very foundations of my soul shook violently ….. Those prayers for a powerful ministry are being answered – Right now! Great God “We can go now, the Baptizer’s here”

The Baptizer The Baptizer is always with you! You must call on His power in the Will of God form His Power to manifest. Mountain Top Experiences and Spiritual retreats are real! – When you go and seek to be closer to God, He will make you more aware of His: Presence, Person, Purpose and Power.

Mountain Top Experiences It was on the mountain where Abraham was going to offer Isaac and God offered a lamb; a picture of the day the Lamb of God, the Messiah would take our place. Genesis 22:1-24 It was on the mountain that Moses received the Ten Commandments. When he came down from being in the presence of God his face actually glowed from being in the radiant, glorious presence of God. Exodus 20 Elijah met God in a showdown on Mt. Carmel and he called fire down from heaven and had victory over Baal and his false prophets. 1 Kings 18 It describes a dramatic meeting with God that out of it flows such joy and peace that eclipses any other event in our life. Are times when God gives powerful, personal encounters with His people.

The Radiant Face of Moses 29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the L ORD. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. Exodus 34:29-30 Elijah Vs the prophets of Baal at Mt. Carmel 36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “L ORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, L ORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, L ORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” 38 Then the fire of the L ORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. 39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The L ORD —he is God! The L ORD —he is God!”

Matthew 17:1-27 / Mark 9 The Transfiguration After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

Mountaintop experience defined: A temporary, uncommon encounter with God that is meant to give us a fresh awareness of the reality of His nearness. It involves our: 1) Mind: I learn something new about God’s person. 2) Emotions: I feel something. I am overcome with a sense of the greater reality of God and His nearness to me. It’s like in my spirit eye I see behind the veil. 3) Will: God is not into extreme events for the thrill of it. When God shows up it is so we will be different. When I come down off that mountain I am impacted in the reality of what I know, what I feel, and what I do.

Helpful Reading (page 68) John 7: You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” 35 The Jews then said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He is not intending to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, is He? 36 What is this statement that He said, ‘You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?” 37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
