Hamburger Helper! Let’s learn how to write a hamburger paragraph!

When do you write this type of paragraph?? When you are expressing your thinking or knowledge of a certain topic or question When you are sharing information about what you know or think

The Topic Sentence (Top Bun)  the very first sentence of your paragraph  states the main idea and explains what your paragraph is going to be about  doesn’t get into specific reasons and details yet  always needs to be indented Crocodiles are incredible hunters. These reptiles are fast in the water and on land. They can run almost 27 mph! Crocodiles often take prey by surprise. They hide for hours under the water’s surface. Few animals hunt as well as crocodiles.

Supporting Sentences (Meat)  support the topic sentence  stay focused on the main idea of the paragraph  give specific reasons  should be two or three in a paragraph Crocodiles are incredible hunters. These reptiles are fast in the water and on land. They can run almost 27 mph! Crocodiles often take prey by surprise. They hide for hours under the water’s surface. Few animals hunt as well as crocodiles.

Elaboration Details (Cheese, Lettuce,Tomato )  follow up your supporting sentences with details and examples Crocodiles are incredible hunters. These reptiles are fast in the water and on land. They can run almost 27 mph! Crocodiles often take prey by surprise. They hide for hours under the water’s surface. Few animals hunt as well as crocodiles. Make your burger extra delicious! Add elaboration details. YUM!!!!!  tells how, why, or so what?

The Concluding Sentence (Bottom Bun)  the last sentence of your paragraph  restates the main idea and what your paragraph was about  should be worded differently than your topic sentence Crocodiles are incredible hunters. Also, the beach is very relaxing. Many people listen to soothing sound of the ocean while lying in the sun. The beach is a great choice for a summer vacation.
