Department State Social Welfare Department Government of TamilNadu is looking after the MDM and Block Development Officer. Mid day meal menu is informed through BDO to schools but not dispalyed in all schools E.g In Karur District only in three schools it was displayed.[August Visit] Organizer, Cook and Helper are appointed. e.g In Salem Dt in two schools organizer and cook not available during the visit.

Erode District Visitsed 40 schools All served hot cooked meal Buffer Stock for one month is minatined Quality of food grain is good Delivered in ths chool campus

Weekly menu is not displayed Menu is informed by the BDO

Quantity and quality is not good in five schools Health card is not maintained in six schools Pucca kitchen is not found in twelve schools Inadequate utensils is six schools In Erode district Parents,VECs Panchayat members, community members visit are found in two.

General Observations in all districts Attendance need to be taken and it should tally with the school attendance. But not found in all schools. It need to be monitored. We have given remarks in the Registers maintained by the organizer.[e.g In Salem three schools it is not maintained. Aug.2014 visit] Training module is available in 17 schools for cook cum helpers.[Nammakkal District Sep 2014 visit.] They need to be educated

Training for all Training need to be given to cover all the persons involved. E.g Ulunderpet Govt.Girls School organizer has received training and she gives for training for others.. But the Kitchen shed need to be renovated.[ visit] Cooking cost is provided in advance to schools. But all schools don’t get. [e,g Salem district August visits]

Supply Food Grains are delivered in all schools in time Egg is supplied with different colour seals on the egg. Palmoline oil is supplied.Utensils are manage able. Plates are not adequate. Kitchen cum store has proper rooms in some schools. And not all. Funds are done through e transfer Though one cook and one helper are available, they do arrangements even in extraordinary circumstances to cook food during their absence

Dissemination of Information MDM Logo need to be displayed. [e.g] when it was discussed in Coimbatore district immediately the BDO visited and did the arrangements for painting the logo on Hand wash practices should be disseminated through pictures, slogans with real provisions for water Though Menu is received it is to be displayed on the notice board.

Procedure &Service They use fire wood for cooking purpose.e.g LPG is used in only two schools in Krishnagiri District during our visit. Hot cooked meal is served Variety rice is supplied with egg Cook and helper serve food to children Teachers monitor in a few schools where the HM is keen on it

Health Aspects Micronutrients like iron, folic Acid is and de worming tablets are supplied Health card is maintained in schools. But not found in all schools.e.g Trichy District only in 10 schools health cards are maintained

Health checkup Dental and Eye check up must be rigorously done by all schools. E.g.In Dharmapuri only three schools have done Health and hygienic condition in kitchen need to be taken care of. e.g GHS, Zuzuvadi and GHS Moanapalli, Krishnagiri Dt. July 2014 visit Fire Safety measures are found in 3 schools.e.g Erode District.
