TDWG, October 19, 2008 Giri Palanisamy, Metadata Management – Mercury (  Current strategy and standards: –Mercury handles various metadata standards including FGDC, EML, GCMD, ISO 19115, Dublin Core –Mercury has ~ 12 partner projects, more than 60 different data sources, more than 60K content rich metadata records –Mercury receives metadata from PIs (individual) and also from other data centers (bulk harvest)  Issues: –Missing critical & required fields, insufficient information –Inconsistent field values – most standards define what is required but doesn’t force the format  January 10,2008, JAN 2008, 2008, , , ,  Not available, n/a, none, &nbsp (space), last year etc..  Broken links  Validating a text field –Example: keywords field contains value “keywords relevant to ecology”
