How to: the online JMU library services By: Colleen Carty

Overview Students, faculty, and staff frequently use the library services online to research scholarly, peer reviewed articles, found in the library system for papers, classes, projects, etc. Using the library online services is a lot easier because it takes seconds to search a huge database for anything that a student, staff or faculty member may need. It is also very easy to narrow down searches to rule out any irrelevant material. This library service catalogue offers search features and a large collection of information to search from. Without an understanding of this application, students, faculty, and staff are limited to searching through the library manually for information.

Goal: JMU students, faculty and staff will gain knowledge of how to use the JMU online library database, and to use it to find Scholarly, Peer Reviewed Articles online.

Objectives: By the end of this presentation, JMU students, faculty and staff will be able to access the JMU Library Online Catalogue in order to search the online and regular library database for Scholarly Peer-Reviewed articles JMU students, faculty and staff will be able to effectively search for their topics in the JMU online library database without any outside assistance by the end of this instructional presentation. JMU students, faculty and staff will be able to narrow down their search and find a source to use for their research without any outside help on the JMU library online database by the end of this presentation. By the end of this presentation, JMU students, faculty and staff will be able to access the JMU Library Online Catalogue in order to search the online and regular library database for Scholarly Peer-Reviewed articles JMU students, faculty and staff will be able to effectively search for their topics in the JMU online library database without any outside assistance by the end of this instructional presentation. JMU students, faculty and staff will be able to narrow down their search and find a source to use for their research without any outside help on the JMU library online database by the end of this presentation.

Searching for Topics: Type in the Topic you would like to search in the Search bar, and click the drop down menu to the right to select “Scholarly Articles.” Click Submit Type in the Topic you would like to search in the Search bar, and click the drop down menu to the right to select “Scholarly Articles.” Click Submit

Narrowing it down to “Peer Reviewed” Articles: Look to the Left Side of the Webpage and Select the Box Marked “Scholarly Peer-Reviewed Journals” under “ Refine your results.”

Click Update

Review and Choose Articles then click on link

Click: Check for Full text at JMU

Click the first Option: Article

Click: Full Text HTML

The full Scholarly Peer Reviewed Journal will appear! Scroll Down to view the full article!

Congratulations! You have now learned how to search for and use a Scholarly, Peer Reviewed Article by using the JMU online Libraries database!
