Agenda Layout Clear and concise Lifelong learners W.A.M.M M.O.V.E Texas Law MISD Mission Goals Approach Accountability ACTIVE

State law requires that at least 50 percent of a PE course (on a weekly basis) comprise actual student physical activity at a moderate or vigorous level, while meeting the needs of students of all ability levels. Additionally, districts must establish goals that include class-size ratios small enough to ensure student safety. If a district establishes class-size ratios exceeding 45-to-1, the district must specifically identify how student safety will be ensured. Physical Education Texas Law Physical Activity Requirements State law/rules require all students enrolled in full-day prekindergarten, kindergarten or grades 1- in an elementary school setting to participate in physical activity for a minimum of either 30 minutes daily or 135 minutes weekly in a TEKS-based physical education class or a TEKS-based structured activity, including structured recess.

The mission of Physical Education is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. MISD Mission Physical Education

CATCH Coordinated approach to Child Health which offers structured, grade specific, and TEK aligned activities. Marathon Kids Mission is to improve the health of children by providing them the tools, motivation and support to live happier, healthier lifestyles. M.O.V.E Time Movement, operation, vigor, exercise. Replace recess with “MOVE” time which is structured, meaningful, and purposeful activities Approach Movement, Operation, Vigor, Exercise

CATCH activities at the elementary level in MISD were hand picked by the Physical Education team. Each activity is TEK specific and fully engages all students. Campuses doing CATCH have a designated location for lesson activities made available to all teachers. These are performed 1-2 times a week. Our campuses Nursing staff has been properly trained in CATCH and is taking the lead in directing each campus in the implementation of CATCH. CATCH has turned the tide against childhood obesity by transforming schools and after-school centers into health- promoting environments. The core elements of CATCH include: physical activity programming, nutrition and other health-related education, and healthier food choices, for preschool – middle school aged children. "Our kids didn't do this to themselves. They don't decide the sugar content in soda or the advertising content of a television show. Kids don't choose what's served to them for lunch at school, and shouldn't be deciding what's served to them for dinner at home. And they don't decide whether there's time in the day or room in the budget to learn about healthy eating or to spend time playing outside." -Michelle Obama, Childhood Obesity Summit

PME CATCH STATION In addition to pre-selected activities, teachers also have available to them any materials that may be needed to perform each activity. However, majority of the activities merely require willing and active bodies!

FitnessGram is a comprehensive educational, reporting and promotional tool used to assess physical fitness and physical activity levels for children. The assessment includes a variety of health- related physical fitness tests that are used to determine students’ overall physical fitness and suggest areas for improvement when appropriate. *FitnessGram preparation is performed each day as students attend P.E class. The FitnessGram test items are incorporated within the warm-ups and stretches of each lesson daily. FitnessGram testing for all campuses will be administered in February FitnessGram Test Items  Muscular Endurance  Body Composition  Muscular Strength  Aerobic Capacity  Flexibility

Each campus has their designed min Physical Education class daily. The amount of times that the students attend P.E vary from campus to campus. Those campuses that are on a longer rotation utilize the other options for a longer period of time than those campuses who are on a shorter rotation schedule. All campuses are in compliance with the minimum 135 minutes of required structured physical activity time. Decrease numbers in Manor as they pertain to child obesity. Make our students and parents more aware of healthy eating habits. Increase our production as it relates to Fitness Gram testing across the board. Grow our students from novice to experience in the area of physical activity. Produce a community of learners who make exercise and fitness a part of their daily lives. GOALS “Moving Manor Forward”
