CLASSICAL SCHOOL Building a just and excellent education foundation. Erika Jensen Corey Burns Fletcher Goldinger Khadijah Abrams Santwana Mandalika Jason Bailin

 Classical School provides a classical education that serves as a teaching model to tailor the curriculum subject matter to a child’s cognitive development.  The trivium consists of the Grammar Stage, the Logic Stage, and the Rhetoric Stage.  This three-step approach to learning trains the students in a consistent, repeatable process that can be used for all future learning also, this three- step learning process matches the developmental stages of a growing child. ABOUT THE SCHOOL

DEMOGRAPHICS  Kindergarten – 8 th grade  There are a total of 475 students and 42 staff members.  3310 N. Durkee Street; Appleton, WI

FIRST VISIT  Met with Mrs. Polvolney  Toured entire school  Met with Mrs. Crownheart, teacher of the room we will redesign

SECOND VISIT  Observed lesson  Surveyed teacher/students  Room measurements  Took photos

ABOUT THE ROOM  Lots of storage, very disorganized  Chalk Board  Acoustics not great  Enough space to get around  Mobile projector station  Many Tack Boards

SURVEY RESULTS

Research Results From the surveys, we realized that the room really does not need much structural change. However, the color scheme needs an update as well as the flooring and furniture around the room. We will change the tack boards to help accommodate the multiple classes who use the room.

OUR REDESIGN  Changed color  Rearranged desks  Purchased new storage units  Sliding tack board  Floor to ceiling cabinets  Wheels on every furniture piece  Added a space rug

FINAL DESIGN RATIONAL  Colors affect learning and are more inviting  Wheels add mobility  The new arrangement makes for a more functional space  Sliding tack board for more class room interactivity  The floor to ceiling cabinets create more storage space  The rug makes the floor more comfortable, inviting and helps dampen sound
