“Achievement in the Sixth Form is outstanding. Students have consistently achieved results in both their academic and vocational courses that place them in the top 15% of schools nationally” OFSTED 2014

It is exciting and a measure of our success that the overwhelming majority of our students choose to go to university at the end of their A Level or Level 3 BTEC course. All of the year group who wanted to go to University last summer were successful in securing their places at University. The majority of students secured places at Universities of their choice including Southampton, Kings College London and Queen Mary to name a few. Those students who do not wish to go to university are given excellent guidance and support regarding their next step by the school. POST SIXTH FORM

“Provision in the Sixth Form provides appropriate learning pathways for students to go on to further education and employment.” OFSTED 2014

Three reasons you may want to continue to study a subject at a higher level are: 1.You have been good at and have enjoyed the subject in the past. 2.You need this subject to enter a particular career or course. 3.You have not studied the subject before but have looked into it and think it will suit your strengths. MAKING YOUR POST-16 SUBJECT CHOICES

1. Subjects are distinctly more difficult at an advanced level than at GCSE 2.Make sure you have got your facts straight. There are many misconceptions about subjects required for courses and careers. Look at the UCAS website. 3.Don’t take uninformed risks. What is the new subject actually about? 4.Does your performance match your ambition? FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT

Although they may not be specified as required subjects, many successful applicants to competitive universities have advanced level qualifications in at least two of the facilitating subjects. These are: 1.Mathematics and Further Mathematics 2.English ( Literature) 3.Physics 4.Biology 5.Chemistry 6.Geography 7.History 8.Languages ( Classical or Modern) FACILITATING SUBJECTS

1.Know what you want to study? Check the entry requirements. 2.Not sure yet? – Keep your options open. 3.GCSEs and other standard level qualifications matter… 4.Think balance. 5.Make sure you know WHY? THE FIVE POINT PLAN FOR MAKING YOUR POST-16 CHOICES

“ Teaching is outstanding in the Sixth Form” OFSTED 2014

As we enter a new phase of post-16 education with the curriculum reforms the Sixth Form Centre at Mayfield School confidently maintains an exciting and varied curriculum. Our aim is to provide an appropriate pathway for all our students and with our outstanding advice and guidance we will ensure that you are enabled to study the right course so that you get to where you want to be and achieve your goals and aspirations.
