Post 16 Routes of Study at SHS: A Levels BTEC courses

Sixth Form Changes Massive restructuring process of all A Level courses from 2015 Content of every AS and A Level subject has and is currently being reviewed. Some syllabuses have not been accredited and are still in draft form! The AS (completed in Year 12) USED to automatically lead onto the A Level (Year 13) but both are now free-standing qualifications AS and A Levels are assessed at the end of the one or two year course respectively Subjects are being reviewed in waves. First wave includes; English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Art, Business Studies, Economics, History and Sociology All institutions are in the same boat, and will be publishing their individual offers when more information becomes available.

What Does This Mean For You? Students will have the option of completing an AS or an A Level in a subject Some schools will only offer the A Level, but due to the linear examination, students will only be formally assessed at the end of the 2 year course. Possibly leaving with nothing. Some schools may offer AS qualifications (1 year), but at the moment this does not offer a progression route for the student e.g. university Shenfield High School will publish its offer as soon as all details have been finalised

Courses Art Biology Business Studies Chemistry Drama & Theatre Studies Economics Film Studies English Language/ Literature Media Studies Psychology Sociology Law PE BTEC Business BTEC Sport BTEC Drama To name but a few!!!

GCSE grade points: A*=8 A=7 B=6 C=5 D=4 E=3 F=2 G=1 We add together your points for: English Language + Maths + your 6 next best other subjects Provides you with a points score… How do I qualify for a place in the Sixth Form?

Use the course criteria for each subject in the Sixth Form prospectus What do you want to do after Sixth Form? Workplace University Apprenticeship What subjects/ qualifications are required for this chosen pathway? How Will I Know Which Pathway And Subject To Choose?
