James Cook A PowerPoint Presentation By Jordan and Caitlin
Captain Cook was born on October 27 and was a British Explorer who represented the English Royal Navy.
His goal was to find the sixth continent that explorers thought was in the Pacific.
Cook’s first expedition on the Endeavor was in 1768 to Tahiti from England to observe the Transit of Venus, to determine the distance from the earth to the sun.
On his second expedition he sailed to Cape Town, South Africa and on to the Bouvet Island, near Antarctica.
He was the first person to cross the Arctic Circle.
James Cook arrived at Cape Town, South Africa on October 18, 1776, and sailed to New Zealand.
While heading for Alaska, Cook sailed to and named the Christmas and Sandwich Islands.
On Captain Cook’s third expedition he was attacked and killed on Hawaii by the natives in 1779.
