Starter Activity Adverbs to enhance meaning!

Remember! Most adverbs end in ‘LY’! Hurriedly Jokingly Hastily Quietly

Consider the following sentence ‘James walked into the room’ At the moment the above sentence is a little dull! There is very little detail in the sentence. An adverb can provide much more detail. Write this sentence in your book

Your choice of adverb can also change the STYLE of your writing. ‘Menacingly, James walked into the room.’

The choice of adverb can have a pivotal effect on the sentence. ‘Lazily, James walked into the room.’

Choose different adverbs to alter the meaning of the sentence. But remember adverbs can be moved around the sentence. So write out the sentence again putting the adverb in different places!

In a few minutes you can share your ideas with the class! Good Luck
