The “r” sound  In the movie at 0:44 the “r” sound is talked about.  In this accent the r is only pronounced when it is before a vowel.  Say normally, Are green cards brighter?  Green is said normally, the “r” is before the vowel. However in cards the “r” is after the vowel. So say cards with no r.  Say the words

Vowel sounds “uh” and “oi”  At 1:07 in the movie they talk about the vowel sounds “uh” and “oi”  These sounds become one. Don’t go overboard.  Say “ he sang the first verse with his beautiful voice.”  The vowel sound in verse and voice sound the same.

The “th” and the “t” sound replaced with a d  At 1:51 in the movie the “th” replaced is talked about.  It is common for that sound to be pronuced with a d.  Say that, say dat.  Say there, say dere.  Say aftermath, say aftermad.  Say misthought, say misdought.

Corked and Crossed Vowels  At 1:55 in the movie the corked and crossed vowels are talked about.  Slow down and draw out these sounds.  Say “don’t let the dog walk across there”  We then say “ donnn’t let de dog waaak across dere”  Say “ are they any little bottles of water”  Now say “ ae dey any litlllle boootles of wader”

Read this in your accent. Practice!!!!!  This morning a bird woke me up. It was a lark, or a peacock; something like that. So I said hello. And it vanished, flew away, the very moment I said hello! It was quite mysterious. So do you know what I did? I went to my mirror and brushed my hair two hundred times, without stopping. And as i was brushing it, my hair turned mauve. No, honestly! Mauve! Then red. then some sort of a deep blue when the sun hit it.... I'm twelve years old, and every day something happens to me. i don't know what to make of it. When i get up in the morning and get dressed, I can tell...something's different. I like to touch my eyelids, because they're never quite the same. oh, oh, oh! I hug myself till my arms turn blue, then I close my eyes and cry and cry till the tears come down and I can taste them. I love to taste my tears. I am special. I am special! Please god, please, don't let me be normal! Copy and paste this monologue into a word document and alter the text to fit your accent. Once finished print off script and keep for your first assignment.
